Formerly called the Jail Task Force, the Justice System Reform Initiative (JSRI) is the group within MOSES focused on the Dane County Jail and city and county law enforcement practices. It consists of four teams, as follows:

  • the County Work Group on Diversions Support Team, which focuses on prison alternatives including efforts to build a crisis intervention and restoration center in Dane County;
  • the Madison Police Policy Support Team, which monitors and supports the work of the Madison Police Department Policy & Procedure Review Ad Hoc Committee;
  • the Criminal Justice Team which works on recommendations from Resolution 556; and finally
  • the Mental Health and Jail Support Team, which works on solitary confinement issues and the upcoming Mead & Hunt report on how to deal with safety issues within the jail.
